About Me
Hi, I’m Kate — dance teacher, studio owner, national cheer coach, and occasional chaos‑coordinator.
I started Move It back in 2011 in a little scout hall, on my own, with just 11 students — 4 of whom are still with us today and are now teaching themselves! In 2014, with the help of my parents, we opened our first proper studios on Westmorland Road. Then, in 2023, my partner Riki and I purchased our beautiful new home for the studio on Hutchinson Square — a massive achievement and a real asset for our community.
From day one, my dream for Move It Studios has been to create more than just a timetable of classes. I wanted a home for dancers of all ages and abilities — a place where families feel part of something bigger, where excellence and enjoyment go hand‑in‑hand.
We’re also proud to be the only dance school on the Isle of Man with an in‑house teacher training programme, developing the next generation of skilled, qualified instructors — many of whom started here as young students.
Since those early days, our students have achieved incredible results in exams, competitions, and performances — but what makes me proudest is seeing them support and inspire each other every single day.
Alongside the studio, I also lead the Pom side of Isle of Man Cheer Sport, coaching our national team and representing the island at the ICU World Championships. Coaching at that level is challenging, exhilarating, and hugely rewarding — it pushes me as much as it pushes the athletes.
When I’m not teaching or planning shows, you’ll probably find me dreaming up the next big project, at a cheer competition, or enjoying a rare quiet coffee (usually with Riki nearby making me laugh but most importantly reminding me why I do it 7 days a week 24hr a a day!).

Favourite Dance Memory:
Performing on stage with both my children for the first time — but winning a bid in 2023 to compete at The Summit has to be my fondest memory for many reasons, as you can imagine.

Fun Facts:
-
I can plan an entire dance show in my head during a single coffee… but will still tweak it 27 million times before the big day.
-
I’m powered almost entirely by tea and biscuits (and occasional noodles).
-
I have a talent for turning “just an idea” into a full‑blown event before anyone can talk me out of it.
-
I can spot a wonky ponytail from across the studio and will fix it before class starts.
-
I own more sparkly costumes than regular clothes — and I’m fine with that.
-
I believe glitter should be its own food group.
-
My “short meetings” have been known to last longer than a full class.
-
I have safety clips and pins on almost all black tops I own!
